Richard Gitomer, MD, FACP, is a general internist is the chief medical officer at Mercy Care in Atlanta.  His career has centered on advancing primary care and driving measurable improvements in healthcare quality. After founding and leading his own general internal medicine private practice, he joined Emory University, where he later became the Clinical Chief of Primary Care.

Dr. Gitomer developed a deep professional focus on quality improvement, ultimately serving as the Chief Quality Officer (CQO) of Emory Midtown Hospital. Under his leadership, Emory Midtown rose from the fourth quintile nationally among academic medical centers to a top‑10 national performer within four years.

He subsequently became CQO and President of the Emory Healthcare Network, where he designed the network’s population management infrastructure that achieved shared savings in its first year of value‑based contracting.
