Charles Burger, Director of Pulmonary Vascular Center, Mayo Clinic Florida and Professor of Medicine, Mayo Clinic College of Medicine

Education: Wake Forest University School of Medicine - MD; Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Internal Medicine Residency; Mayo Clinic, Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine Fellowship.
Dr. Charles Burger has been a member of the Mayo Clinic staff since 1991. Currently, he serves as a consultant in the Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Pulmonary, Allergy, and Sleep Medicine; Director of Pulmonary Vascular Center, Mayo Clinic Florida and a Professor of Medicine, Mayo Clinic College of Medicine. He is past chair of the Department of Critical Care Medicine and Division of Pulmonary, Allergy, and Sleep Medicine. His specialty areas include pulmonary vascular disease, liver-lung disease, and rare cystic lung disease. Dr. Burger founded and has served as medical lead for both the pulmonary vascular and lymphangioleiomyomatosis centers of excellence. The pulmonary vascular center has the “Pulmonary Hypertension Comprehensive Center” accreditation by the Pulmonary Hypertension Association since 2015. He has been recognized for excellence as the “Distinguished Mayo Clinician, 2014”, “Distinguished Mayo Clinic Educator, 2019”, and “Mayo Brothers Clinical Excellence 2022”. The Pulmonary Hypertension Center was recognized with the 2024 Team Innovation Award by the Department of Medicine. He has published over 130 peer-reviewed manuscripts. He is former Editor-in-Chief of Advances in Pulmonary Hypertension. Dr. Burger enjoys analytics, finance, history, and numismatics.
