Adan (Adam) Mora, Jr., MD FCCP

Dr. Mora is a medical intensivist at UT Southwestern Medical Center – Parkland Hospital in Dallas, Texas triple boarded in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Medicine, and Critical Care Medicine. His passion is serving vulnerable populations and serves as a nationally renowned expert in the care of critically ill pregnant patients as well as critically ill transgender patients. Due to his strong advocacy, he has been appointed to service on the LGBTQ+ at CHEST interest group with the American College of Chest Physicians and is now their vice-chair, rising chair in 2027. He also serves as a voting member of the Health Equity Task Force for CHEST which seeks to set equitable healthcare for patients in pulmonary, critical care and sleep medicine. He holds a position on the Scientific Programing Committee for CHEST to ensure balance, accurate and up to date content for the international meeting. With the Society of Critical Care Medicine, he also serves on the Fundamental Critical Care Support: Obstetrics groups which provides education for the management of critically ill obstetric patients.
He trained at the Texas Medical Center, in Houston, Texas, and after having completed a dual residency in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics, he completed fellowship training in Pulmonary and Critical Care at UT Houston – MD Anderson Cancer Center. He is an associate professor of medicine with the UT Southwestern Medical School and previously was an associate professor with the Texas A&M Medical school and core faculty at Baylor University Medical Center. Prior to joining UT Southwestern, he was the Chief of Critical Care Services for a hospital system in Columbus, Ohio, where he created all their CME and educational initiatives. Prior to that he served as the associate program director for the pulmonary and critical care fellowship at Baylor University Medical Center as well as the core faculty and course director for critical care.
He has won numerous teaching awards for the medical education he provides medical students, residents and fellows. Most notably, during his first year at UT Southwestern, in a pool of 750+ eligible faculty, he was awarded the Outstanding Teaching by a Faculty Member in Internal Medicine and the following year was awarded the Outstanding Research Mentor Award. He holds the honor of being the only faculty to receive these awards back-to-back.
Dr. Mora is also an expert in interview preparation and has guided countless medicine professional on their journey to securing their next professional steps in training and employment. He has lectured and presented at both the local, national and international level on both pulmonary and critical care topics. He is married to his wife, Leah, and they have two children who are actors. He is an is an avid support of the arts and serves on artistic boards.
