JUDITH Volcy, DO, FACP
Dr. Volcy graduated from Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey with a double major in Biology and Psychology. She then went on to graduate from the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine. She completed her internal medicine residency at Morehouse School of Medicine. She stayed on as faculty for four years, having achieved Teacher of the Year honors for 2003 and 2004. Next she managed a thriving practice in Cobb county for 14 years as part of Wellstar Health System then was recruited back by Dr. Ivonye in 2018. She has had 3 publications in the almost 4 years she has been back including a QI project on provider and patient assessments on telemedicine, a collaborative effort. She has also placed third in the annual Faculty Teaching competition. Dr. Volcy completed the inaugural class of the Morehouse School of Medicine Teaching Academy and is now recognized as a certified Teacher of Distinction. Since returning to academic medicine in 2018, Dr. Volcy has been awarded Teacher of the Year five more times, most recently in June of 2025. In June of 2025 she was also named GME Faculty Member of the Year. Dr. Volcy has taught the Longitudinal Board Review to PGY3 residents for the past 5 years as well as been one of the teachers for the Step 3 Board Review, which is now in its fifth year. Dr. Volcy was medical director for the primary care clinic for the past 5 years as well as APD for five years before assuming the role of Program Director in July of 2025. She also served as section chief for the GIM faculty before stepping down in Dec of 2023. July, 2025 marked 25 years since completing residency and practicing internal medicine for Dr. Volcy. Aside from a love of teaching and lifelong learning, Dr. Volcy’s enjoys caring for her patients and getting our clinic metrics to green. When not working, she enjoys gardening and spending time with her husband and two sons.
