Deitra Dennis is The Self-Care Coach for Nurses who empowers black women nurses to prioritize the care of their MVP (most valuable patient), so that they can serve from the heart at the highest level.

Deitra has spent over three decades as a registered nurse with a diverse career ranging from hospital bedside care, home health, doctor’s office, nursing home, utilization management, quality leadership as well as disease management where she was recognized for her outstanding coaching skills in guiding patients to make healthy lifestyle behavior changes. It was during her extensive career that she observed patients that were frequently admitted to the hospital as a result of complications of chronic diseases. After the premature death of one of her beloved patients, Deitra decided to change the trajectory of her nursing career from the bedside to the sidelines as a health and wellness coach.

As the founder of Full Circle Health Coaching LLC, Deitra is now on a mission to guide black women nurses on their journey to optimal health using a full circle approach that includes holistic self-care. She also partners with black nursing organizations on strategies to build resilient members to live at their best selves so that they can serve and educate their communities.

Deitra is a National Board-Certified Health and Wellness Coach through the National Board for Health & Wellness Coaching, Licensed Food for Life Instructor through the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, Ambassador of African Heritage and Health with Oldways, Certified INTERVENT Health and Wellness Coach, and a Certified Professional Plant-Based Chef through Rouxbe Online Culinary School.

She is a contributing author of OASIS – Oldways Africana Soup in Stories, African Heritage Power Plate Booklet, and Cultivating Seeds of Health with Plant-Based Nutrition.

Deitra also has featured articles in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) entitled Heritage Diet and Culturally Appropriate Dietary Advice May Help Combat Chronic Diseases, and the American Heart Association (AHA) Circulation Journal entitled Vegan Diets That Are Culturally Aligned With Traditional Soul Food Gain Popularity Among Black Individuals.

She received a Healthy Nurse Spotlight from the American Nurses Association’s Healthy Nurse Healthy Nation Initiative.
