Khamara Harris, MS, NCC, LGPC

Khamara Harris is a Black cisgender woman and a licensed graduate professional counselor (LGPC). Specializing in supporting adults, children, and families through culturally responsive, trauma-informed care. Using play therapy, somatic approaches, expressive therapies, and other evidence-based interventions, she helps clients navigate healing, strengthen resilience, and break cycles of intergenerational trauma.
Khamara earned her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore and later pursued a Master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Capella University. Her journey into counseling was shaped by a commitment to addressing the impact of trauma within communities that have historically experienced barriers to quality mental health care.
Through her clinical work at PlayfulLeigh Psyched, under the supervision and mentorship of Dr. Dowtin, Khamara has expanded her expertise in trauma treatment, attachment-focused care, and culturally affirming therapeutic practices. She is passionate about creating therapeutic spaces where safety, authenticity, and empowerment support meaningful and lasting healing.

At the Black Maternal Health Conference, Khamara will present on Safety-Centered Practices in Maternal Mental Health, exploring how clinicians can foster emotional and relational safety while delivering trauma-informed, culturally responsive care to Black mothers and birthing people. Her work emphasizes the importance of trust, collaboration, and honoring lived experiences as essential components of maternal mental health care.
