Rachell Dumas, MSN, RN, DNP(c) is a nurse, maternal health advocate, health technology founder, and nine-time pregnancy loss survivor committed to ensuring that Black women are heard, believed, and protected throughout their healthcare journeys.

After experiencing nine pregnancy losses, including the devastating consequences of cervical insufficiency and a failed cerclage, Rachell ultimately welcomed her son after undergoing a transabdominal cerclage. Her experience navigating pregnancy loss, high-risk pregnancy, and motherhood became the foundation for A Light After Nine, the nonprofit she founded to support women and families navigating pregnancy loss, infertility, and complex maternal health journeys.

Her advocacy became even more urgent after childbirth. Six months postpartum, Rachell woke up experiencing vision loss and stroke-like symptoms. After initially being dismissed and misdiagnosed, she was eventually diagnosed with a rare neurological condition that required multiple procedures and brain surgeries. Just two weeks after her second brain surgery, she founded HEARD Innovations, an AI-powered healthcare navigation and advocacy platform designed to help patients document concerns, communicate more effectively, navigate complex healthcare systems, and advocate for themselves when they feel unheard.

A Registered Nurse with experience in critical care, surgical trauma, nursing informatics, and virtual care management, Rachell brings together lived experience, clinical expertise, technology, and advocacy to address the systemic gaps that disproportionately impact Black mothers and families.

Her work is rooted in a simple belief: being heard in healthcare should never be a privilege, and no Black mother should have to nearly lose her life before someone listens.
