Stephanie Baker is the granddaughter of L.C. & Gladys and Annie Mae & Washington, daughter of Felix and Realure, sister of Alicia, mother of Ariana, and auntie to many. She is an Associate Professor and Chair of the Public Health Studies Department at Elon University. Dr. Baker is a scholar-activist whose work uses an anti-racism lens, combined with community-based participatory research, to better understand and address racial health inequities. Guided by a strong family legacy of activism and advocacy, she pursued a PhD in Health Behavior at the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health, where she discovered her passion for health equity activism. She earned her BA in Psychology and MS in Physical Therapy from Washington University in St. Louis. Her recent work, conducted in collaboration with community partners, has focused on maternal and child health and reproductive justice. Dr. Baker is also the co-founder and director of the HER Lab — Health Equity and Racism Lab — and enjoys mentoring undergraduate students in research and career development.
