Taleah is a fourth-year PhD candidate, Hillman Scholar in Nursing Innovation, and Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Health Policy Research Scholar at the UNC School of Nursing. Passionate about empowering minority communities, she leverages her research to amplify the voices of populations whose health needs are otherwise overlooked. Her perspectives are shaped by her experiences as a Black woman from the Southeast U.S. and her work as a doula and postpartum nurse. Taleah's emerging program of research applies various methods to investigate and address the multilevel factors that impact the mental and physical health of reproductive-aged Black women. She believes that everyone deserves to experience safe, happy pregnancies that transition into healthy lives, and aims to design and implement interventions to help Black birthing persons reduce their risk for adverse maternal health outcomes prior to pregnancy.
