Adetola F. Louis-Jacques, MD, is a clinical-translational researcher, Associate Professor, and a board-certified Maternal-Fetal Medicine physician at the University of Florida (UF) College of Medicine. She is the Medical Director of the Midwifery, Breastfeeding Medicine, and ACCESS maternal health (encompasses the OBGYN mobile outreach) programs. She is the interim Maternal-Fetal Medicine Fellowship Program Director, the OBGYN Vice Chair of Research, and co-Director of the Center for Research in Perinatal Outcomes. Her research program has focused on interventions (e.g., doula support, community health workers) and behaviors (lactation) during the perinatal period with the aim of decreasing long and short-term maternal morbidities. Her laboratory group develops biomarkers or interventions for testing, with the goal of conducting intervention trials to improve breastfeeding rates and reduce disparate maternal morbidity. She is dedicated to building long-lasting relationships within her community by demonstrating trustworthiness and valuing community members as key experts with lived experiences. Before joining UF Health, Dr. Louis-Jacques was an assistant professor in the department of obstetrics and gynecology in the Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine at the University of South Florida Morsani College of Medicine in Tampa. After earning her medical degree from the University of Vermont College of Medicine in Burlington, Dr. Louis-Jacques completed a residency in obstetrics and gynecology from the Lehigh Valley Health Network in Allentown, Pennsylvania, followed by a fellowship in Maternal-Fetal Medicine from USF.
