DeBran Tarver, PhD, is the Senior Director of Research at the Black Women’s Health Imperative (BWHI), where she leads research, evaluation, and dissemination efforts focused on advancing health equity and improving health outcomes for Black women and girls. With more than a decade of experience in public health research, Dr. Tarver has managed and supported federally funded, foundation-supported, and community-engaged research initiatives spanning women''s health, HIV prevention, chronic disease, health disparities, and community-based participatory research. Her work focuses on translating research into actionable strategies, programs, and policies that address the social and structural factors influencing health. She has extensive experience in research design, survey development, program evaluation, qualitative and quantitative data collection, and stakeholder engagement. In her role at BWHI, she works closely with academic institutions, healthcare organizations, community partners, and industry stakeholders to support the development, implementation, and dissemination of research that centers the experiences and needs of Black women. Dr. Tarver is particularly passionate about ensuring that research findings are accessible and meaningful to communities, decision-makers, and practitioners. Her work emphasizes community voice, culturally responsive approaches, and evidence-informed solutions to address health inequities and improve health outcomes. She is committed to bridging research, practice, and policy to create lasting improvements in the health and well-being of Black women and their communities.
