Qiang Cai
Qiang Cai, M.D., Ph.D., is the director of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at LSU Health Shreveport and Chief of Gastroenterology at Ochsner LSU Health Shreveport. Dr Cai received his bachelor’s degree from Jiangxi Medical College, Nanchang, Jiangxi, PR China and master’s degree from Peking Union Medical College, Beijing, PR China. He pursued his Ph.D. at Cornell University. Dr. Cai completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Saint Joseph's Hospital, University of Wisconsin prior to engaging in his Fellowship in the Division of Digestive Diseases, Emory University School of Medicine. He remained at Emory University rising to the rank of Full Professor.
Dr Cai is active in the many gastroenterology societies, such as American college of gastroenterology, American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, etc. and having served on many committees, such as the Annual Scientific Program Committee (ASGE), Research Committee (ASGE), Education Committee (ACG), Training Committee (ACG) and International Committee (AGC) among others. He was Chairman for the international committee of ACG. He was president of Georgia Gastroenterology and Endoscopy Society (GGES). While he is active on many journals, he served as an Associate Editor for the American Journal of Gastroenterology. His many teaching awards include the Mentor for Outstanding Research Award for Trainee—Interventional Endoscopy from American College of Gastroenterology. He has published over 146 peer reviewed papers, 4 books, and has more than 400 hundred abstracts.
Dr. Cai is an advanced endoscopist and brings focused and unique expertise in endoscopic mucosal resection, endoscopic submucosal dissection, Per Oral Endoscopic Myotomy (POEM) for achalasia, Gastric Peroral Endoscopic Pyloromyotomy (GPOEM) for Refractory Gastroparesis, Z-POEM for treatment of Zenker’s diverticulum, ERCP and EUS-guided and specialized pancreatic therapies. He was an invited speaker for about 300 times in national and international GI conferences, including conferences in China, Japan, Taiwan, the United States, Mexico, Brazil, Dubai, etc.
